Leaning to bake!

Kendra has discovered recently that she likes to bake...so she has been asking to do it often.  She decided this time to make butterscotch chip cookies...they turned out pretty good...they didn't all look the greatest, but all tasted wonderful!

Marble Bags!

The kids bought new marbles this weekend...and asked for bags to hold them in.  So, I made marble bags today!  They turned out really cute!

Life Lesson

Since Matt and I have at times at struggled with money...we are trying to teach the kids about money. So, after getting paid for helping at Grandma and Grandpa's house while they were gone...we worked on money - we split it into spending, saving and sharing!  Love it when the kids "get it."  I hope they will always remember....also to not buy things unless they have the money for it!

February 22 - I spent lots of time pulling up staples....so glad to be done...only 3 blisters on my hand!

February 23 - Last night I decided that the laundry room floor needed to be redone before the carpet came....so I was at Menards by 8:30 the morning of carpet installation.  I bought the peel and stick times...had it ready for the carpet layer when he came at 10:30!

The padding is in!!!

I think they like the new carpet!!!!  I do too!!!!

The house had a totally different layout before it was gutted in 1960 - it was fun seeing what had once been!

The hallway had linoleum under the carpet....

A bit more work!

Since we had our roof redone...the attic turned into a HUGE mess...shingles, nails, yuck everywhere!

This is the north side of the attic.  I stacked and covered everything with plastic...smart move!!

Looking towards the front of the house on the south side.  I got about 2/3rds of the way on this side...only took me a few hours!  Wouldn't the attic be an awesome room????

The weekend.....

In order to get new carpet in our bedroom...we had to move to the "back playroom".

Then we had to pull up the carpet and replace some baseboard.

And while Matt worked on the baseboard...I worked on pulling up the carpet and padding in the hallway.  What an awful job.  Not only is it dirty, but there were 2 inch nails at every door frame!  Ouch!!

I got the hallway and front entry done.  Who knows what this house used to look like.....the floors are crazy!

We are working towards getting new carpet in the living room...that meant moving the baby grand piano out...what a big job!

Thankful for friends who helped...and an uncle who was willing to take it back:)

The empty corner...not sure what I am going to do with the extra room!  

A family favorite!

Ian needs to bring 2 dozen cookie or bars to school for tomorrows beach day.  When I asked him what I should make...."those almond bars that you make."  So, I did.  Not much to look at but very, very yummy!!!

Cat in the Cupboard

Cat in the cupboard....so, in my quest to repaint my kitchen cabinets I took the doors off...Cheddar discovered it was nice and warm sitting in the cupboard.  The dog and cat have always fought for a spot in front of the heater vent you can see...but I think the cat has one upped the dog by finding it's even better in the cupboard!

This is what my house looks like today...you can see that the antenna is gone and that the roof looks wonderful!  Below is the before picture...check out that roof!!  It was falling apart!

Again...due to my new floors I had to find something for the dogs food and water...this 4$ boot tray should work great!!!  (Why didn't I think of that years ago?)

More Work!

More work....since the floor looks so nice, now I have to paint the kitchen cupboards...here is the first bunch!  Anyone want those lovely handles?  I am getting rid of LOTS!

Two right feet???

You know how sometimes in dancing they say you have two left feet....well, today I have 2 right feet!  Not sure how the socks got matched wrong or when I had two left feet.......

The last few days....

1/28/12 - figuring out how to put down the under layment.

1/29/12 - its slowly coming together!

1/30/12  Why not put the fridge in the living room?  Closer for a snack:)

1/31/12 - the roof in a dumpster!!!!

The almost finished project!! 

2/1/12 - The finished floor!!!  Now I just need to get the cabinets painted and it will be awesome!!! Maybe tomorrow;)
